Indian foreign policy is constantly evolving and adapting to the changing global landscape. India has updated its foreign policy towards connecting eastern and western countries, Act East and Look West. Africa is the focal point of India’s Global South Policy. For centuries, India and Africa have had long historical, cultural, political, and economic ties. In ancient times, Indian trade had maritime routes linking with East Africa and Arabia. During colonialism, the British Empire transported indentured labourers from India to African plantations or other labour-intensive jobs.

About the Author
Bharat Singh has completed his PhD thesis at the Centre for African Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He holds an MPhil in African Studies from the same institution. Singh has served as a visiting faculty member at Delhi University, and as an assistant professor at Raffles University. His expertise lies in political science, conflict studies, and African geopolitics. He has presented research papers at various national and international conferences and has published articles in reputed journals.
