10 Global Conflicts to Watch in 2025

In today’s edition of the daily newsletter delivered directly from the Editor’s desk, we’re looking at the top 10 global conflicts to watch in 2025. In the Middle East, a chain of conflicts is taking place set off by Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel followed by the latter’s retaliation on Gaza Strip; Iran’s region wide attack through non-state proxies; and thus, setting a stage for Islamist rebels to topple the Assad’s regime, ending a half-century-old dictatorship in Syria. We also witnessed more aggression from Russia on Ukraine and thereby threatening a wider confrontation in Europe.

The Russia-Ukraine war and Israel-Hamas conflict along with involvement of the United States (as a supporter) and Iran through its proxies overshadowed many flash points elsewhere around the world such as South China Sea (the Cross-Strait conflict), Myanmar’s civil war, Rwanda’s rebellion in Democratic Republic of Congo, insurgency at Haiti, plus the devastation in Sudan that added much to a global tally of people dead and displaced. This newsletter sheds light on potential flash points that can burst into a much bigger conflict this year.
